Daren Blonski's 2025 Market Outlook

March 10, 2025

2025 is off and running, with several key market themes emerging:

Tariffs and Trade Policies
The reimplementation of US tariff policies not seen since the 1900s is expected to influence global trade dynamics, potentially leading to increased market volatility, inflationary pressures, and geopolitical realignment. Bombastic negotiating tactics are expected to create intraday volatility and offer an opportunity to step back from day-to-day market gyrations.

Inflation Concerns
Persistent inflation remains a central focus for traders and policymakers, with its trajectory influencing monetary policies and investment strategies. With key inflation indicators showing persistence, this could continue to drag on fixed income and be positive for stocks. Despite what may be said in the media, we expect the federal government to continue fiscal stimulus but perhaps distribute it to a different set of groups and individuals. This means dollar printing could continue and at least simmer at current levels.

Deglobalization and Supply Chain Realignment
If a “America First” mentality truly sweeps the business world, a shift towards deglobalization could prompt restructuring supply chains. If the U.S shifts away from being a so-called “global police force”, this could leave international supply chains at risk for disruption.

Advancements in Artificial Intelligence (AI)
The rapid evolution of AI technologies is transforming various sectors, offering new investment opportunities and reshaping business operations. While we sense a bubble in this area of the market, leading companies could continue to push growth forward as AI integration continues.

Uncertainty is Certain
One thing is for sure- factors such as geopolitical tensions, policy changes, and economic uncertainties are contributing to heightened market volatility, necessitating adaptive investment strategies. In times of uncertainty, it becomes even more important to stay focused on long-term goals and planning. Listening to the political ‘noise’ that is likely to come could prove fatal to your portfolio.

We believe investors and businesses should monitor their own data and returns closer than the emotions and heartburn of the headlines to navigate this evolving economic environment.
