Managing Principal Daren Blonski was once again honored to support the La Luz Leadership Academy this month, continuing a partnership he holds close to his heart.
Founded in 1985, La Luz (“The Light”) began in Sonoma as a community center serving wine-industry workers and families from Latin America. Decades later, its reach has grown well beyond those roots. Today, the organization offers early childhood support, legal services, assistance with essentials such as food and housing, and education programs focused on long-term economic mobility.
The Leadership Academy sits at the center of that mission. The program is designed “to develop leadership skills and their social network so that they can be a catalyst for change in Sonoma Valley through health, education, and financial security.”
Drawing on his master’s degree in Organizational Development from Sonoma State University, Daren once again shared his experience with this year’s academy class and joined them in celebrating their accomplishments at the closing awards ceremony.
Daren, when asked why he donates his time to teach and give back:
“There’s something about teaching that flips a switch in me. When I’m mentoring students, I’m not thinking about markets or strategy. I’m fully present, listening, trying to meet each person where they are. That same part of my brain is what makes me a better leader back at the office and, honestly, a better father at home.
Every time I show up for someone else’s growth, I get sharper at showing up for my own team and my own kids. In a roundabout way, the kids are actually helping me, I’m helping them, and it’s a great exchange. It’s a great day to be a part of.”

Our thanks to the dedicated La Luz team for another opportunity to support their work and serve Sonoma and the surrounding communities.
